Strengthening Partnerships in Bangladesh
Earlier this month, EPConsult Energies reaffirmed its commitment to delivering one of South Asia’s most strategic infrastructure initiatives: the Gas Pipeline Network Master Plan for Bangladesh. As part of this effort, Managing Director Martin H. Larsen travelled to Dhaka for a high-level technical visit and site engagement programme.
Accompanied by Nick Haralambopoulous and Scott Edmonds, energy and policy experts from partner consultancy ECA (Economic Consulting Associates), Martin spent the week engaging with senior figures across Petrobangla and its affiliated companies, visiting key gas infrastructure sites and reviewing project progress firsthand.
“It was invaluable to be on the ground, understanding the local dynamics, listening to stakeholders, and continuing to build the trust and alignment needed for such a complex project,” Martin reflected.
A National Plan for a Resilient Future
The Petrobangla Master Plan is a comprehensive consultancy assignment covering ten stages of gas network development, including demand forecasting, tariff design, institutional review, cost estimation, and capacity-building.
With EPConsult Energies in the lead, the project brings together international expertise and local insight to define a future-ready pipeline system that meets the country's growing energy needs, while addressing issues of optimisation, investment planning, and long-term sustainability.
During the Dhaka visit, Martin and the team held technical sessions with organisations including BAPEX, TGTDPLC, GTCL, and visited the Ashulia–Amin Bazar gas stations, all critical assets in the national gas infrastructure.
One of the highlights of the visit was a productive discussion with Dr. Belayet Hossain, Petrobangla’s Project Director, where project direction and delivery priorities were aligned.
Collaboration in Motion
Throughout the visit, support on the ground was expertly coordinated by Shakuwat Hossain and Yasir Arafat (Ahmed) of Sayhan, EP’s local partner in Bangladesh. From organising stakeholder meetings to guiding the international team through Dhaka’s buzzing traffic and hospitality scene, their role was instrumental in ensuring smooth and impactful engagement.
And of course, no visit to Bangladesh would be complete without enjoying some of the local delicacies, from biryani to misti doi, and exchanging ideas over tea during the monsoon downpours.
Looking Ahead
Martin’s visit marked an important milestone in the ongoing delivery of the Petrobangla Master Plan. The in-person discussions, technical reviews, and site visits injected new momentum into the project and reinforced EP’s values of presence, partnership, and precision.
With strengthened collaboration and a shared sense of purpose, we’re excited about what lies ahead for our teams, for our partners, and for the future of Bangladesh’s gas network.
