Hazard Identification Study (HAZID)

EPConsult Energies (EP) completed many complex Hazard Identification studies for various clients. Our approach is to facilitate multidisciplinary workshops to identify and rank Major Accident Hazards (MAH) to personnel and the environment. Safeguards for each MAH are documented, and any residual risks are subject to further risk reduction and action.

Environmental Aspects Identification Study (ENVID)

Environmental Impact Identification (ENVID) serve to identify potential environmental hazards to a proposed development/scope and to establish acceptable remedies to contain the associated risks within acceptable limits.

Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP)
Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) is a systematic approach for identifying potential threats by reviewing the process safety of designs and evaluating operability in oil and gas operations, chemical plants and nuclear industries.

A HAZOP review examines piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) using primary and secondary guidewords to describe deviations from the design intent. Specific requirements include:

  • Flare and relief systems;
  • Batch operations;
  • Cause and Effect Charts;
  • Interlock Systems;
  • Start-up and Shutdown.

Safety Integrity Level Study (SIL)

A Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Study analyses Instrumented Protective Functions (IPF) to ensure they are designed for the worst consequences of foreseeable control failures.
A Safety Integrity Level for each IPF is determined in a workshop environment using Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) or Risk-Graph approach.

SIL verification follows in detail design and is a reliability analysis of the IPF architecture combined with a testing and inspection interval.
A Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) or simulation approach is applied to verify whether the IPF reliability results can attain the SIL level requirements.
